Danelec Marine, a leading manufacturer of Voyage Data Recorders (VDR) and provider of Internet of Things (IoT) maritime infrastructure, presents a new version of its proven two-way communication server Vessel Remote Server (VRS) at Posidonia this week (booth #1.562). Ready to ship now, VRS 003 is a cost-effective in-vehicle data collection and processing solution connected to the DanelecConnect cloud platform where customers, OEMs and application companies can drive operational efficiency, while improving security and ensuring compliance.
Like the existing and established VRS 002, the VRS 003 is a more robust, secure, and cost-effective alternative to data processing than custom-built virtual private networks (VPNs), which are often expensive and difficult to use. Ideal for rapid installation on board specialist vessels and fleets at the forefront of applying digitalization to improve commercial and operational performance, VRS 003 guarantees the availability and integrity of vessel data, which, thanks to the analysis by powerful cloud-based applications, can provide the insights needed to optimize operations and minimize greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions according to stringent targets to 2030 and beyond.
Danelec’s new VRS variant supports more sensor data, expands VDR recording, and includes an integrated 3-axis motion sensor to support future use cases. Importantly, it also allows developers to host applications locally, giving them greater control over custom services while alleviating the need to manage on-board hardware, remote updates, backups, running infrastructure first party and data loss risk management. By helping DanelecConnect application partners better meet the specific performance monitoring and data analysis requirements of different customers, VRS 003 delivers more value to end users who view data as a transformational tool.
Danelec’s new VRS has been developed in response to market demands and is offered as a complement to VRS 002, the cost effective generic data processing solution already installed on over 2500 vessels. While providing more capacity for data from more sensors and targeting vessels with complex digital requirements, the VRS 003 retains the plug and play nature established by the original VRS; it sits perfectly between the VDR and the ship’s communication system, ready to facilitate the sharing of data from any sensor or operational technology on board without the need for human intervention.
“Leveraging smart navigation methodologies, where vessel and fleet data drives operational and business information and decision-making, is key to reducing the environmental impact of the global shipping industry,” said Casper Jensen, CEO of Danelec Marine. “Combined with the DanelecConnect cloud platform and growing application suite, VRS 003 supports this by providing the ability to seamlessly integrate into the most demanding ship’s IoT environment, while simplifying workflows and reducing the cost of obtaining insights from the data it manages.
